GitHub is a hosting service for Git repositories. It is where you back up projects, review changes, and share your work. Create the account first, because verifying your email can take a few minutes and everything later in this guide connects to it.

  • Go to github.com/signup and follow the steps.
  • Use an email you check. GitHub sends a verification code.
  • Pick a username you are comfortable sharing. It appears in your project URLs and on your public profile.

While GitHub verifies your email, continue with the terminal and Git below.
