What is Bruin Cloud?
Bruin Cloud is the managed platform underneath every Bruin product. It schedules and runs your pipelines, keeps the history of every run and alerts you when one fails, and adds governance on top: a data catalog, column-level lineage, meta-keys, asset tiers, SSO, role-based access control, audit logs and cost insights.
Do I need Bruin Cloud to use Bruin?
No. Bruin CLI and ingestr are open source and run locally, in CI or in your own orchestrator. Bruin Cloud is the managed layer for teams that want scheduling, observability and governance without building and running that infrastructure themselves. The pipelines are the same either way: connect the GitHub repo you already use with the CLI.
How does scheduling work?
Each pipeline declares its schedule in pipeline.yml, as a preset such as @daily or @hourly or as a cron expression. Bruin Cloud resolves the dependencies between assets and runs them in order, retries failed steps, and holds downstream assets when a quality check fails. Failures alert the channels you configure, such as a Slack channel.
Where can Bruin Cloud run?
In Bruin's cloud, fully managed; in your own VPC on AWS, GCP or Azure; or on-premises, including restricted and air-gapped environments. VPC peering and private connectivity options are available for enterprise tenants, and you can pick the region your tenant runs in, including the EU.
Does Bruin need access to our production database?
No. Bruin can work from read replicas, exports or incremental loads, so it never needs direct access to your production database. Transformations run inside your warehouse, so customer data stays in your infrastructure.
What governance features are included?
A catalog of every asset with owners, meta-keys and asset tiers; column-level lineage from source to dashboard; role-based access control scoped per workspace, project and asset; single sign-on with SAML 2.0 and OAuth on enterprise plans, with SCIM provisioning; audit logs for queries, asset changes, access and administrative actions; and cost insights on what your pipelines spend in the warehouse.
Is Bruin Cloud secure and compliant?
Bruin Data Limited is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified by Prescient Security, with Bruin Cloud in scope, and SOC 2 Type 2 attested by Prescient Assurance. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 or newer in transit. The SOC 2 report is available under NDA, and the security page covers controls, sub-processors and data residency.
