Claude Dashboards vs Bruin
A dashboard on your warehouse vs a dashboard on your pipeline

Claude Dashboards writes a SQL query for each chart and runs it against the warehouse you connect. Bruin's AI dashboards run on the platform that loads, models, and checks that data first. Here is where each one fits.

The Real Question

Who stands behind the number on the chart?

Claude builds from what you connect:

Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, ClickHouse, Salesforce, and other apps connected to Claude. Each chart is a query against those sources.

  • Warehouse already loaded, modelled, and tested by a data team
  • A quick view for a question this week, not a standing report
  • Team already works in Claude and pays for Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise
  • Someone reads the SQL before anyone acts on a chart
  • Deeper analysis handed off to Hex, Sigma, Omni, or another BI tool

Bruin builds from data it keeps correct:

Ingestion, SQL and Python transformation, quality checks, lineage, and the dashboard agent live in one platform, so each chart carries the state of the pipeline behind it.

  • Ingestion, SQL and Python transformation, checks, and lineage in one project
  • Shared semantic and named queries, so revenue means one thing on every dashboard
  • Knows whether last night's load passed before the chart refreshes
  • Dashboards as code with dac, reviewed in pull requests
  • Same definitions answer in Slack, Teams, Google Chat, WhatsApp, and more

Fair Assessment

Where Claude Dashboards works well

If your warehouse is already loaded, modelled, and tested, Claude Dashboards is the fastest way we know to turn a question into a chart. You ask, Claude writes the SQL, runs it, and lays out the result, and every chart tells you what it counted and when.

  • A first dashboard in minutes from a question, with no BI tool to set up
  • Every chart shows its SQL and its last refresh time, so a data person can check it
  • Live queries run under each viewer's own warehouse permissions
  • The same Claude that built the chart can explain a number or draft the write-up
  • Export to Hex, Sigma, Omni, and others when a question outgrows the dashboard

Anthropic describes Dashboards as designed for quick, exploratory questions, and suggests sending deeper analysis to a BI tool. That is exactly where it shines.

Limitations

Where Claude Dashboards stops for team dashboards

It queries, it does not build

Claude reads the tables in Snowflake or BigQuery. Loading Stripe, HubSpot, and Postgres into them, and modelling the result, is still somebody's job. Bruin does that part.

A failed load looks like a quiet day

If last night's orders load failed, the chart shows yesterday's rows with a fresh refresh time. Bruin's checks run in the pipeline, so the dashboard knows the table failed.

Every dashboard writes its own SQL

Two people asking for revenue can get two queries and two numbers. Bruin dashboards read shared semantic and named queries, so the definition is written once.

Verification is on the reader

The query is one click away, and reading it is your job. Bruin shows the SQL plus column-level lineage and the check status of every table behind the widget.

Lives on claude.ai

A dashboard is an artifact, versioned on claude.ai, not a file in your repository. Bruin's dac dashboards are YAML or TSX files you review in a pull request.

Beta and plan gates

Beta on paid plans, off by default on Enterprise, and every build counts toward plan usage limits. Bruin's open-source CLI and dac run anywhere.

Purpose-Built

What Bruin dashboards have underneath

The pipeline behind the chart

ingestr loads the sources, SQL and Python assets model them, and the dashboard agent queries the result. One project, one command to run it.

Checks before the chart

Freshness, not-null, accepted-values, and custom SQL checks on the asset that produces each table. A failed check stops the run instead of reaching a dashboard.

One definition per metric

Semantic and named queries are shared across dashboards, and team notes attach context to the data, so the same question gets the same number.

Lineage on every number

Column-level lineage is derived from the SQL Bruin runs, so every widget traces back to a source column without a second tool.

Dashboards as code

dac turns a YAML or TSX file into a live dashboard on your warehouse. Open source, one binary, reviewed in a pull request like the rest of the pipeline.

Answers beyond the dashboard

The same agent answers in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, email, and the browser, and runs scheduled reports.

Our Honest Take

"Claude builds a dashboard from whatever your warehouse says. Bruin makes sure the warehouse is right first."

We use Claude every day, and it writes good SQL. The difference is what sits under the query. A Claude dashboard is as trustworthy as the tables it reads, and nothing in it knows whether last night's load passed. For many teams the best setup is both: Bruin loads, models, and checks the tables, and Claude Dashboards queries those tables when someone needs a quick view.

Decision Guide

When to choose each

Choose Claude Dashboards if...

  • You already run a modelled, tested warehouse and want quick views on it

  • You need a one-off dashboard for a question, not a standing team report

  • Your team already works in Claude and pays for a Claude plan

  • A data person will read each chart's SQL before anyone acts on it

Choose Bruin if...

  • Your data lives in Stripe, HubSpot, Postgres, and ad platforms with no modelled warehouse yet

  • The dashboard is reviewed every week and has to match last week's number

  • You want checks, lineage, and shared metric definitions under every chart

  • You want dashboards as code in your own repository

  • Your team also asks for numbers in Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, or Google Chat

Frequently asked

What is Claude Dashboards?
Claude Dashboards is a beta feature, announced by Anthropic on 8 October 2026, that turns a plain-language question into a dashboard built as a Claude artifact. Claude writes a SQL query for each chart, runs it against a connected source such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, ClickHouse, or Salesforce, and shows the query and last refresh time on every chart. Bruin's AI dashboards do the same from a chat prompt, on top of a data platform that also loads, models, and checks the data.
Can Claude build a dashboard from my Snowflake or BigQuery data?
Yes. Connect Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, or ClickHouse to Claude, ask for a dashboard, and Claude queries the tables directly. It does not load or model the data, so the tables need to exist and be correct first; Bruin builds and checks those tables and its dashboards read them.
How much does Claude Dashboards cost?
Claude Dashboards is in beta on the paid Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, with no separate price, and building dashboards counts toward your plan's usage limits. On Enterprise it is off until an owner turns it on. Bruin's CLI is free and Apache 2.0 licensed, its dac dashboards-as-code tool is open source, and Bruin AI dashboards are part of Bruin Cloud.
Do Claude Dashboards update automatically?
Anthropic says a dashboard stays current as the data changes, and each chart shows when its data was last refreshed. The queries rerun against the warehouse, so a chart is only as fresh as the tables it reads: if a load failed overnight, the refresh time is new and the data is not. Bruin runs the loads and freshness checks as well as the dashboard, so it can flag that.
How do I know a Claude dashboard is correct?
Open each chart's query and check what it counts, which is Anthropic's own guidance, or click a number and ask Claude to explain it. Claude cannot see whether the underlying table passed its tests or how a column was built. Bruin dashboards show the SQL plus column-level lineage and the quality-check status of the tables behind each widget.
Can Claude Dashboards replace Looker, Tableau, or Power BI?
Not for most teams yet, and Anthropic does not position it that way: Dashboards is designed for quick, exploratory questions, with a handoff to tools such as Hex, Sigma, and Omni for deeper analysis. Teams that want AI-built dashboards for recurring reporting usually need governed metric definitions and tested tables underneath, which is what Bruin provides.
What is the difference between Claude Dashboards and Bruin AI dashboards?
Both build a dashboard from a chat prompt. Claude Dashboards queries whatever warehouse or app you connect and writes fresh SQL per chart. Bruin AI dashboards are built by an agent that works on Bruin's own pipeline, with shared semantic and named queries, quality checks, and lineage, and the same definitions answer questions in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, email, and the browser.
Who can see a Claude dashboard I share?
A dashboard is private until you share it within your organization or, if an admin allows, by public link. Live data runs through each viewer's own connector, so two people can see different numbers depending on their access, and a public viewer who is not signed in sees the page without live data. Bruin dashboards are private or team-wide, with viewer and editor roles and optional per-viewer query scoping.
Can I use Claude Dashboards and Bruin together?
Yes, and it is a good setup. Bruin loads your sources into Snowflake, BigQuery, or another warehouse, models them in SQL and Python, and runs quality checks; Claude Dashboards then queries those checked tables for quick, one-off views. Recurring team dashboards and chat answers stay on Bruin, where the definitions live.
What is the best alternative to Claude Dashboards for a data team?
Bruin is the best fit for data teams that want AI-built dashboards on data they also load, transform, test, and trace, with dashboards as code in their own repository. Hex suits notebook-first analysts, Sigma and Omni suit teams that want a full BI tool on a modelled warehouse, and Lightdash suits teams already standardized on dbt.
